Update on Surge Learning and Benefits

We wanted to get this info out there as there have been questions about these issues

Payment for Surge Learning

During the last round of bargaining, the Employer committed to discussing surge learning within 60 days following ratification.  We made it clear that it was our expectation that our members be paid for time spent doing surge learning. We then agreed to a policy that would see our members get paid for completing the surge modules at home, after proof of completion was provided.  Even though the agreement was made back in March, the Employer has yet to implement the policy.  Despite this, the Employer has provided assurances that our members will be paid for the surge learning that is done this year, but it may take some time for them to get it done.  An update will be provided when available.  Please note that the surge learning is still required to be done.

Newly Negotiated Benefits

There have been many reports that the improvements that were negotiated to the benefits package (coverage for eye exams, increases to paramedical benefits) are not being recognized by Industrial Alliance. The Employer reports that they have informed the insurance company to update the benefits several times but the issues continue.  If you get denied for a benefit that you should be covered for, please contact a Union steward or a member of the executive so that we can address the problem.
