Since the United Steelworkers (USW) has been the bargaining agent here, lots has happened!

Representatives

We have elected our Executive, our Bargaining Comittee and even our Stewards! We have educated all of these members on their duties, and how to carry them out.  We have been meeting regularly with the Stewards and the Health and Safety Representatives to ensure they know that they are trained and supported. if you are interested in being a representative for your Union and your co-workers, email us at [email protected] 

Bargaining

Over the last year, we have gone through bargaining.  You elected a Bargaining Commitee and we bargained with the employer, but had to go to arbitration (HLDAA) to get an agreement. The gains that were made in bargaining are more that have been seen in some time.  The results can be found on the "HLDAA Award Details" page.  We will have the updated collective agreement posted on the website as soon as we can.

Grievances

We took the vacation pay grievance to arbitration and had a positive outcome.  While we did recieve a favourable response from the arbitrator, our argument for retroactive pay was limited due to the inaction of the previous union.

In addition to the vacation pay grievance, there have been DOZENS of grievances filed for our members for a whole host of reasons. If you have any questions regarding the disposition of a grievance, reach out to your Union Steward.
